Local Foundations and Charities
Twice annually all of the IGY Marinas join together with owners, captains and crew to support local communities. Our goal is to get people off the boats and into the communities where we operate to support local charities and nonprofit organizations. Here are some of the local organizations that we have assisted:
Nature Foundation St. Maarten
The Nature Foundation St. Maarten
work towards educating the youth on conservation issues and promoting environmental awareness in the community to stop environmental pollution, protect the environment and reduce single-use plastics. St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation
The Animal Welfare Foundation
has, since 1996, operated: an Animal Ambulance whose volunteers respond to emergencies and taxi for free residentsâ€™ pets to local vets for residents without transportation. The team also treats mange in the community and collects unwanted animals for adoption.
Kidz At Sea
Kids at Sea
was founded in 2012 with the idea: Build the boat - row the boat - sail the boat. Using the slogan "Build your Future". Its core goal is the encourage local St. Maarten youth to enter the maritime industry professionally.
Carib Swim Team
Founded in 1993, the Carib Swim Team
is St. Maarten / St. Martin's largest and most successful swim team for youth aged 5-18 years and adults. Carib Swim Team competes in local inter-island swim meets as well as Caribbean and national meets in Curacao, Aruba, Barbados, St. Lucia, Santo Domingo, Martinique etc. and has over the years produced several National Champion swimmers.
Annual Marina Events
Carnival on the Bay: Experience Carnival in December with The Yacht Club at Isle de Sol. Since the Carnival is celebrated at the end of our season, we want to welcome you back to St. Maarten with the heritage of Carnival. From the colorful costumes to the authentic music of the island, we bring the celebration to you!
St. Maarten/St. Martin has many festivals and events throughout the year!
Well known as being the biggest tourist activities on the French Side of the island, The Grande Case Tuesdays Harmony Nights is not to be missed.The main street of Grande Case becomes pedestrian from 6pm to 10pm. It will come alive with the largest traditional market on the island, but also a variety of street entertainment, musical bands, local arts and craft exhibitions and carnival dancers. Not less than 60 exhibition booths, 40 restaurants, 20 shops, a dozen local artists involved in performance every Tuesday evening for a minimum period of three months.
The Heineken Regatta
is the oldest and the most famous regatta that has gathered every year for more than thirty years, during three days in March. Several hundred sailors on all categories of sailing vessels, from the lightest â€śHobby Catâ€ť to the most impressive â€śmaxiâ€ť participate. Sometimes, a few old sailing ships add a nostalgic touch. Since its origin, the biggest names in sailing have come to race many unknown competitors on the Heineken Regatta, to share in the pleasure of fighting against the wind and the waves, as well as to maintain the high level and quality of sailing days. Perfectly organized, this high caliber event is rightly rattled â€śSerious Fun." There is an unusual dimension added to the race which extends well past the surface of the water and the sporting aspect, as each evening, the crews and public gather to enjoy unforgettable concerts offering a variety of music.
The SXM Festival
brings DJs and electronic music talent from all over the world to entertain festival goers for an entire week. This festival takes place in different venues and offers a chance to come together and dance in a communal atmosphere.
APRIL / MAY
Celebrate one of St.Maartenâ€™s most anticipated celebration of vibrate costumes, local cuisine and local music. St. Maarten Carnival takes place every year during late April/Early May! Itâ€™s a spectacular event that you wonâ€™t want to miss.
Experience Patrimony Day. Each year, the third weekend of September is devoted to culture and to people wishing to discover historical monuments often closed to the public.
Several excursions are organized for the public all over the island.
Concordia Cup is a friendly annual competition in Mullet Bay between golfers on the French side and their friend on the Dutch side.
Enjoy St. Maarten's Day Celebration. The island was discovered on this day by Christopher Columbus in 1493. It will be filled with official ceremonies and traditional entertainment such as music, cultural heritage and gastronomy.
It is also French Quarter Village Celebration Day.
Even if you are not a certified diver, you can experience the next best thing. You are tethered to an air tank and able to dive and explore underwater adventures.
Built in 1967 in Marigot, you can see the island's largest historical monument.
Topper's Rhum Distillery
Visit the home of the "World's Best Tasting Rhum" handmade in St Maarten. A tour guide will show you around the 6000 square foot distillery teaching about rum making process.
